Did I get 2 lemons? Replacement works perfect
Brand new thermostats, will pair fine with the THM5421R1021 EMI board but then it will loose its settings and unpair from the EMI board. Have to be reconfigured all over again. Not sure if I got lemons. I am getting two new thermostats replacement and hope they will work.UPDATE:I upgraded this review to a 5 stars. I got two replacement the next day and they worked perfect after connecting with the THM5421R1021 EMI board and programing them. Power cycled the board and the thermostats battery unplugged and it does retain the settings and the redlink connectivity. So it looks like I had a bad batch in the first shipment which is very strange, not one but both of them.

A good purchase
With increasing electricity prices, I wanted something giving a bit more control over my AC/Heat Pump, and in particular the secondary heating system (resistive electrical). The old Honeywell thermostat was a little too free with the auxiliary heat, and costing a fortune. This behaves much more reasonably, and in addition with the addition of an external thermometer can be configured to totally avoid aux heat above a set temperature - I used 40°F, because the heat pump is much more efficient once up to that temperature and doesn't need the help. The siting of the thermostat is also not wonderful (hallway), when the area we are interested in mainly is the family room. Adding a secondary temperature sensor in the family room and configuring to use that helps a lot.Electricity is still expensive, but we are now using less.

Great for upstairs temperature inconsistencies
Wow! We have a 2-story house with a dual zoned HVAC system (2 thermostats to control upstairs and downstairs independently through adjustable dampers with only 1 air conditioner). We have had major problems with consistent air temps in the upstairs since we moved in. The 2 bedrooms in the front face the sun all day and have lots of large windows. Those rooms get HOT when it's sunny outside. The 2 bedrooms in the back are comfortable or even cool. The thermostat is located in the hallway right beside the stairwell, where all the hot air from downstairs rises. To make matters worse, it's feet away from the laundry room. We tried everything...spent $1000 to get the windows tinted in the front bedrooms, bought black-out curtains, had the air people come out and adjust our dampers multiple times and install some sort of blower for the room at the end of the run. Finally, we bought this thermostat with 4 sensors, 1 to go in each bedroom. We had our air people install it since we're still within our 1 year warranty, and they did it for free. This setup is amazing! We have it take the average of all the rooms, and now we get a very consistent temperature, even in the hallway. We stuck the sensors on the walls using medium command strips (the ones that are like Velcro), so it will be easy to pull off and change batteries when we need to. The thermostat is great because you can set a range of temperatures (minimum of 2 degrees apart), and it will automatically change from heat to air conditioner. Right now it's nearing spring, so it gets warm enough for the air conditioner during the day but cool enough for heat at night. I used to get up cold in the middle of the night and turn the heat on. Now, I set it for a range of 69-71. The air conditioner cools it if it gets above 71, but when it gets cooler at night and drops below 69, the heat kicks on. So amazing!!!Also, our HVAC guy recommended we buy the thermostat used. He said you'll be able to tell if it works or not instantly when you connect it, and Amazon's return policy is excellent, so it's worth the chance. We bought one in good condition on Amazon for $100 less than a brand new one, and the battery tab hadn't even been pulled out. Saved us a lot of money and hadn't ever been installed before!

Functionality
I changed my thermostat to this one so that I could add sensors to each room. The only down fault is that you have to get another part to be able to control it from your phone app. This functionality is not available for this thermostat.

Fantastic
Thermostat does what it's supposed to. Easy set up if you know hvac. Redlink works great.

SCARY SITUATION!!!
SCARY SITUATION!!! This thermostat is not compatible with all systems (like my heat pump and electric furnace combo). The interaction between these components created a runaway feedback loop because it never told the heat pump to stop running; the house was set to 68 but had risen to 97 when we returned after a day away. This is the kind of safety issue that could kill a pet while you’re at work. I know it is something about the thermostat itself and not a unique failure/glitch because I have owned 2 of these thermostats, and both units caused the exact same problem.

Thermostat
Honestly it's a honeywell stat, the leader in thermostats. If you are in hvac you know these t- stats give you the best in accessories and functionality that others don't give you. The other stats out there just sell you the cool look and wifi capabilities when honeywell has that as well but so much more that you can do with you hvac system so that it runs to optimal performance. And functions that you need and others don't provide.
